Installing a garage door will require a set of tools!

If you use your garage door a lot – meaning not only when you take out and put in the car; you will periodically run into small hitches which will need to be ironed out. While some of the most common problems can be sorted out by the home owner himself – armed with a hammer and a screwdriver, the more complex ones will anyway warrant a call to the company that installed your garage door. Repairing a garage door is not a very expensive process unless there are spare parts which need to be changed, and when something goes wrong, it is always better to get it done immediately, so that your safety is not compromised.

Too many people have been lethargic in getting the problems sorted out, and that led to a few more parts becoming flawed. What could have been done with $ 30 now cost $ 200!!

Some of the most common complaints in garage doors have to do with the movement of the door itself. Either it is not closing fully or does not open fully, or reverses before hitting the floor, or the door opens but the motor continues running. All of these have a similar origin in problem, and that is tweaking the close limit switch and the force motor. If you have read your manual carefully, you should be able to do that by yourself. Or if you have a garage door company on call, they should be able to guide you on the telephone on adjusting it yourself.

The second major kind of problem is with the remote or the opening switch. If it is a switch on the garage door that is causing problems, it is most likely a loose connection or something as simple. Just check the circuit breakers in the mains of the garage, and you should be able to find something that has gone wrong - like a fuse blown or something close. In the case of a remote control, as long as the batteries are fine, it shouldn't cause you too many problems. If it is, and you've tried with a new set of batteries, just check that you are within range - try going close and then operating the remote. If that doesn't work, you can simply reprogram the remote control to work with the garage again, and everything should be fine. Very rarely do complaints like that need professional attention.

Creaking noises and other sounds are the next most common complaint, and your manual will have detailed instructions on what to do when these noises creep up. There are a lot of solutions for that one, and one of them will solve your problem. It could be adjusting the tension on the springs - but be sure that you adjust both springs to exactly the same level - say žth of a turn or something; or could be a little application of grease; or even something far more simpler.

Today's garage doors are built with the intention that no further maintenance needs to be done on them, but that doesn't mean something can't and won't go wrong. Like the adage 'prevention is better than cure', just keep checking your garage door once a month, and everything will be fine.
